In the last two years, more and more people have started working from home. Staying indoor for work may not deteriorate productivity, but it sure limits entertainment factors. That is why we use YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, and other streaming sites. If you are a gamer and joined a discord group, you might have noticed many users able to use their mic while playing audio or music.

Well, if you try to do this on your PC, you might find that it cannot be done on your PC. The default configuration on Windows doesn’t allow you to do this, but you can change the setting. Here, we are going to look at how you can change.

Method 1 – Use Stereo Mixer

Firstly, you need to check whether your system supports a Stereo Mixer. If it is assembled after 2015, it will support it. Stereo Mixer is a Windows utility that allows us to control volume for all output devices and audio jacks. So, you can easily control the volume on your device and also be able to use a mic at the same time.

Nothing to worry about if you are using an older system that came before 2015. You can use third-party software to use the same features. If you are using an old system, you can skip to the next section right away.

However, if you have the latest system and don’t know how to use this feature, this guide helps you. However, in some regions, Windows enables Stereo Mixer as a default, but you can enable it manually if it is not. Check how to use it.

How to Use Stereo Mixer on Windows 10

  1. By default, Windows shows the Taskbar at the bottom, where you will see the Volume icon. Click on it and then select “Sounds.”
  2. A new window will pop up, where you have to select the “recording” tab.
  3. If you see Stereo Mix here on the list then, enable it. If you don’t, right-click on the empty area and click “Show disabled devices.”
  4. Now, if your soundcard and system support the latest Windows utility, Stereo Mix will show up here. If it doesn’t show up, you may have to download the third-party utilities and use them.
  5. Simply select Stereo Mixer, right-click on it, and choose “Enable.”
  6. Since you want to play music via your mic, you have to use third-party software. So, now open a third-party software on the system, and select the “Playback” tab at the top. The third-party app should be opened in the background.
  7. Once it is done, click on the “Speakers/Output” and click on “Properties.”
  8. Now click on the “Levels” tab shown at the top.

Once all is done, you will see a dedicated sound level setting the microphone jack. You can easily adjust the sound level according to your needs.

Important: If you are using a single jack device, you will get the level adjustment only for the one jack. However, this will not prevent you from playing audio through your microphone. Still, you will not be able to adjust individual output and input settings until to use a headset with a dedicated microphone jack.

That’s all you need to do. Once it is done, you will be able to play music through Mic in Windows 10. This is advantageous if you want to add sound effects while live streaming or make commentary while playing a video.
