The availability of AMBER alerts is a prevalent feature that is available in the United States. That said, with the emergency notification number, AMBER (America’s Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response) is an important feature that is prevalent in the U.S.
With an AMBER alert, U.S citizens are alerted about the missing people or if that individual is in a close area to them. Apple has integrated its devices with AMBER alert notifications and other types of government emergency alerts that you can enable on your iPhone.
The primary functional AMBER alerts include child abductions, incoming natural disasters, etc. The addition of this feature has subsequently saved the lives of many and even prevented risks of injuries, which are very prevalent in times of emergency.
The AMBER alerts on your iPhone are enabled as a default but you can actively disable them if needed. If you want to manage the notifications and prevent accidental flare-ups, here’s what we’d recommend you do.
How to Control the AMBER or other Government Alerts on your iPhone?
The AMBER alerts are enabled on your iPhone as default. However, not everyone wants to be blared with an incoming notification of an emergency in the middle of the night while they are sleeping.
In such cases, you can control and manage the application, and here’s what you can do:
- Unlock your iPhone and then open the Settings app
- Navigate to Notifications and scroll down to the bottom of the screen
- You will find the “Government Alerts” section. The AMBER alerts and Public Safety Alerts should be enabled on your iPhone.
- You need to disable it.
- Under Emergency Alerts, you can choose if you wish to receive the alerts or not.
- There is an “Always Deliver” option, which you need to disable
When you turn off the Always Deliver option, you won’t receive any kind of notification, especially when your iPhone is in Silent mode.
However, as frustrating as these notifications might be, you need to realize that the AMBER alerts are in place to save lives. They alert you in case a natural disaster is progressing your way. So, we’d recommend you keep the notification on in this case.
One of the reasons why AMBER alert notifications are so loud is because they are meant to catch people’s attention. It isn’t there to simply alert you but to potentially save your life and the ones around you.
So, if you don’t have any other way to be alerted about an incoming disaster or emergency, we’d recommend that you don’t disable it.
Keep it On!
We can’t emphasize this enough but keep your AMBER alerts on. Apple does provide you with an option to disable it and it’s fine to do so for a short period but don’t disable the notifications and alerts permanently.
You want to be notified if something is happening in your close vicinity and the AMBER alert and the other emergency alerts help with just that. So, we’d recommend that you keep it switched on without any questions.
